Recycling Factory goes up in Bukit Mertajam
A plastic recycling factory in BUKIT MERTAJAM which started its operations about two months ago at Jalan Nenas near here was destroyed in a fire with losses estimated at RM5mil.
The fire broke out on Sunday February 24, 2008 and a 17-member team from the Bandar Perda Fire and Rescue Department was sent to the scene.
Operation officer Saad Man said when the firemen arrived, the fire had already destroyed a section of the factory where plastic and paper were kept.
He said the firemen had difficulties putting out the fire due to the strong wind. They took 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.
Khozairi said a forklift belonging to the recycling factory was destroyed in the blaze.
“Six workers in the recycling factory escaped unhurt. There were no workers in the steel workshop,” he said.
Factory owner G. Ranganah estimated the losses at RM5mil, saying that the dry weather could have caused the fire to spread rapidly.
