Recycling cum Charity Event in Johor

Property firm devotes efforts to recycling

Good Samaritans in Johor are urged to bring recyclable items to any SP Setia project in Johor to exchange for free tickets for the Chinese New Year Extravaganza carnival at Setia Eco Gardens on Sunday .

Organised by SP Setia Bhd, the recycling-cum-charity campaign aims to create awareness on the importance of preserving the environment through recycling.

In the Setiahomes Recycle with Love campaign, recyclable items such as plastics and paper may be taken to sales offices of SP Setia's four Johor townships of Setia Eco Gardens, Setia Indah, Setia Tropika and Bukit Indah from now till Feb 17.

Bukit Indah (Johor) Sdn Bhd property division (south) deputy general manager Hoe Mee Ling said the inspiration behind the campaign was the annual spring cleaning tradition in Chinese culture in the preparation for the Chinese New Year.

“Many old and used household items are disposed and replaced with new ones. Hence, we are taking this opportunity to maximise the value of used items to create benefits for the needy and less fortunate,” Hoe said at a press conference here recently.

The highlight of the carnival is a mini concert by Singaporean pop star J.J. Lin whose fourth album, Cao Cao, sold one million copies in less than a week and in Malaysia, Singapore and other parts of Asia.

J.J. Lin will entertain the crowd alongside other attractions such as the Mystical Face Changing Act, 24 Seasons Drum, an acrobatic troupe, the God of Prosperity and a fireworks display.

Money from the sale of the recyclable items will be donated to charity homes and non-governmental organisations such as the Kiwanis Club and National Kidney Foundation.

Malaysia’s tourism ambassador Michael Wong Guang Liang will be the star attraction at SP Setia’s Chinese New Year carnival in Penang on Friday and the Klang Valley on Saturday .

Themed “SP Setia Cares - Michael Wong Sings for Unsung Heroes”, the carnival is to honour the underprivileged and those who selflessly devote their time and energy for the less fortunate.
