RM60,000 for Sarawak’s Serasi Awards

Entry is now open for this year’s Serasi Awards for environment-friendly schools in Sarawak.

Sponsor Shell Malaysia Gas and Power presented RM60,000 to state Environment and Public Health Minister Datuk Michael Manyin to launch the competition recently.

Shell Malaysia Gas and Power vice-president Dick Benschop said the competition aimed to raise awareness on the importance of environmental protection among primary and secondary school students.

“We hope to reach more schools in Sarawak, especially those in rural areas through the competition,” he added.

Manyin said it was important to inculcate a sense of responsibility in the public on protecting the environment, starting from a young age.

“My ministry believes it is not just through enforcement but also through education that the environment can be conserved,” he said.

Participating schools will be marked on environmental management and awareness activities, recycling, conservation of resources, school cleanliness and beautification.

The overall winners will receive RM2,000 and a trophy while the winners in four sub-categories will receive RM1,000 and a certificate.

The closing date for entries is March 15.
